Bringing Theory to Practice

Campus Participation: Student Programming Grants

Under the 2007-2010 RFP, grants of $250 were available to student-led clubs and organizations that initiated groups or programming around the objectives of the Bringing Theory to Practice Project (BTtoP). In addition, Student Programming Grants with faculty supervision were applied for under the Mini Grant category with funding available for up to $2,500.

Participants:

Indiana University Bloomington: "Indiana Classmates/CPR"

This grant supported a student coordinator for "Community Partners in Reading", a program that highlights community service and civic engagement.

Southern Arkansas University: "Developing a hierarchy of student civic engagement, enhancing awareness and encouraging others"

Objective: To determine ways to build student capacity for social responsibility and civic engagement, and to explore the relationship between student perceptions of civic issues and their own well-being.
Summary: Conducted within an honors Psychology research course at Southern Arkansas University, this program aimed to address the disconnect students felt with wider social issues such as hunger, homelessness, poverty and violence. Students conducted surveys, developed educational materials, and linked survey data to textbook materials.
