Liberal Education and America's Promise

Campus Action Network (CAN)

Through the Campus Action Network (CAN), the LEAP campaign brings together campuses and organizations committed to liberal education, helps them to improve their efforts to ensure all students achieve essential liberal education outcomes, and shines a spotlight on campus practices that work.

CAN builds the capacity of campus and organizational partners to:

  1. Communicate effectively about the value of a liberal education in the 21st century with both on-campus and off-campus constituents.
  2. Understand better how successfully they are delivering on the promise of liberal education.
  3. Assess and improve efforts to ensure that all their students are achieving the essential outcomes of an engaged and practical liberal education.
  4. Learn from colleagues at other institutions about promising practices that work.
  5. Gather data about essential liberal education student learning outcomes.
  6. Effectively tell stories of student success as a result of liberal education.

CAN Members

LEAP CAN members pledge to proactively advance liberal education for all students—including those who have been underserved by the academy. They further pledge to create new ways both to illuminate the benefits of liberal education to students and to develop and publicize practices—curricular, co-curricular, and pedagogical—that help students achieve essential liberal education outcomes.

Member benefits include:

  • Print and web resources on communicating, assessing, and understanding the importance of liberal education.
  • Opportunities for effective institutional practices to be featured on AAC&U’s Web site, in AAC&U publications, and at AAC&U Network conferences and the Annual Meeting.
  • Opportunities for professional development geared towards the goals and vision of LEAP through workshops and forums hosted at AAC&U Network conferences and Annual Meeting.
