The Leadership Fund for Liberal Education

To complement AAC&U’s support from institutions, the Association has been strengthening partnerships with its closest friends and affiliates, and with the higher education community as a whole, to build new support for our integrated leadership vision.  One part of this plan is the new Leadership Fund for Liberal Education.

What Does It Support?

The Leadership Fund provides a way for individuals committed to the value and power of a liberal education to help support AAC&U’s leadership for this purpose.

• Revenues from the Leadership Fund will enable AAC&U to extend work on  major, multi-year initiatives with campuses when grant funding ends and to start work in newly-identified directions in advance of or in the absence of grant support.
• Gifts to the Leadership Fund are restricted to AAC&U’s major educational initiatives.
• Gifts to the Leadership Fund will provide increased flexibility to AAC&U,    allowing support to be directed when it is needed to the major program areas of greatest concern to our members and the field of higher education.

 In its early years, the Leadership Fund for Liberal Education will support AAC&U’s major initiative Liberal Education and America’s Promise (LEAP).Support for LEAP helps us highlight the best work on campuses and provides resources and leadership for teaching and advocacy on behalf of students.

Over the long term, this fund will help AAC&U to better fulfill its mission of providing broad leadership both within the academic community and in American society by

• providing resources to commission analysis and research on an “as-needed” basis;
• mobilizing influential leadership and advocacy on educational issues of high priority to the academic community;
• creating generative connections among colleges and universities that are    themselves advancing new directions for liberal education in today’s society.

Looking toward AAC&U’s milestone centennial anniversary, this fund will help AAC&U both to sustain and extend a proud legacy of leadership to establish liberal education as the nation’s best investment in our shared future.
