Chris Jordan, Photographer
“Running the Numbers” looks at contemporary American culture through the austere lens of statistics, with each image portraying a specific quantity of something – 426,000 cell phones discarded every day; 15 million sheets of office paper used every 5 minutes;106,000 aluminum cans discarded every 30 second; 30,000 gun-related deaths in the U.S. yearly.
Chris Jordan's slideshow and commentary, based on his highly lauded exhibits, takes audiences through his beautiful and elucidating photographs, documenting such issues as the environment, global warming, and other social issues. Participants will walk from Jordan's presentation reflecting on the complex roles we all play, and the responsibilities we all hold, in the stewardship of our planet and each other.
Jordan’s work won the prestigious 2007 Green Leaf Award from the United Nations Environmental Programme. In July 2008, his work was short listed for the first annual Prix Pictet in Paris, the world's premier photographic award in sustainability.
