New Global Studies
New Global Studies is a journal that approaches contemporary globalization as a whole, and across disciplinary lines. It draws from history, sociology, anthropology, political science, and international relations to study the past and present of today's globalizing process. Topics include the patterns and local effects of economic globalization, global media networks, preservation of the global environment, transnational manifestations of culture, and the methodology of global studies itself. Editors Nayan Chanda (Yale), Akira Iriye (Harvard), and Bruce Mazlish (MIT) are prominent leaders in the field of global history; editorial board members come from major institutions in Europe, Asia and the Americas.

Liberal Education and Global Responsibility [PDF] by Martha Nussbaum
In a talk given at the Council of Independent Colleges Institute for Chief Academic Officers, Martha Nussbaum, University of Chicago, emphasized that today's students must expand their sphere of concern beyond the boundaries of America and begin to offer compassion and justice to citizens all over the world. She contends that a liberal education, and its strong emphasis on the arts and humanities, provides students with the critical skills needed to become democratic citizens concerned about the humanity of people extending beyond their own borders. Speech was given on November 3, 2002 in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Global-e: A Global Studies Electronic Journal
Published on a quarterly basis, global-e aims features brief essays authored by leading scholars and practitioners, offering provocative reflections on a range of topics with the aim of stimulating discussion among the global studies community. To encourage circulation of commentary essays and to stimulate discussion among readers, each essay is open to reader response and deliberation. Global-e focuses on building relations among global studies programs. Commentaries focus on public issues, theoretical debates, methodological challenges, and curricular concerns. The journal is managed by a collaboration of global studies programs at the Universities of Illinois, North Carolina, Wisconsin-Madison, and Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

CIVNET: An International Resource for Civil Education and Civic Society
Civnet, published by CIVITAS, is a Web site for civic education practitioners (teachers, teacher trainers, curriculum designers), as well as scholars, policymakers, civic-minded journalists, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) promoting civil society all over the world.  Civnet includes a bi-monthly journal of civil society; regularly news articles from the world of civic education/civil society; a library of teacher and NGO resources, including lesson plans, a global directory of civic organizations, and a calendar of events; and the home page of CIVITAS, an independent, international NGO, headquartered in Strasbourg, France, dedicated to promoting informed and responsible citizenship in new and established democracies.

The Institute for Global Communications
The Institute for Global Communications (IGC) is a nonprofit organization that provides alternative sources of information as well as online access and comprehensive Internet services for progressive individuals and organizations. The mission of IGC is to advance and inform movements for peace, economic and social justice, human rights and environmental sustainability around the world by promoting strategic use of appropriate computer networking technology.  Founded in 1986, IGC currently manages a series of networks, including PeaceNet, EcoNet, WomensNet, and Anti-racismNet.

Civil Society International
A private, nonpartisan educational organization in Washington state, CSI is an information clearinghouse focused on collaborations between American voluntary organizations, nonprofits, and independent associations, and their counterparts overseas. CSI's current priority is publicizing creative collaborations between voluntary organizations in the U.S. and the West and new third sector organizations emerging in the new independent states (NIS) that succeeded the collapse of the Soviet Union.  The CSI web site provides print and electronic resources on U.S. and international NGOs and research related to civic action in Eurasia, organized according to sector and region.

PIER: Programs in International Educational Resources of the Yale Center for International and Area Studies
PIER, the Programs in International Educational Resources of the Yale Center for International and Area Studies, provides programs and services designed to broaden understanding of global, international, and world regional issues. The web site contains information about global education and has useful information for developing multicultural lesson plans. The site includes such resources as: summer institutes for educators; curriculum consultation and development; online lesson plans; professional development workshops; PIER Resource Library; review and evaluation of educational materials; field study abroad opportunities; a list of on-line resources for educators; school partnerships & collaborations; and others.

The Global Higher Education Exchange
The Global Higher Education Exchange is a joint venture of the Academy for Educational Development (AED) and the Institute for Higher Education Policy.  Designed to connect education policymakers and leaders around the world with the resources they need, the Exchange's activities focus on three main areas: providing a web site with resources such as research, policy analysis, best practices and innovations, and articles on key policy; hosting an annual conference that convenes policymakers, institutional leaders, and other interested parties from around the globe; and offering technical assistance to institutions and governments, based on the experiences and expertise of AED and the Institute.  Policy areas currently addressed include higher education financing policy and its relationship to the following themes: quality assurance and accreditation; institutional and student finance; information technology; workforce development; and teacher training.
