In 2020, AAC&U relaunched its flagship quarterly, Liberal Education, and discontinued publication of its other two periodicals, Diversity & Democracy and Peer Review. Civic learning and democratic engagement, diversity, and global citizenship—the themes previously explored in Diversity & Democracy—are inherent to the vision of liberal education advanced by AAC&U and, accordingly, are priorities for the reimagined Liberal Education magazine, which is designed to communicate that vision. Likewise, the examination of emerging trends and key debates in undergraduate education, previously conducted within the pages of Peer Review, continues in Liberal Education but is now more intentionally situated within the context set by the association’s animating vision.
Published between 1996 and 2020, Diversity & Democracy (originally titled Diversity Digest) supported the design and implementation of programs to advance civic learning and democratic engagement, global learning, engagement with diversity, and the preparation of students for socially responsible action. Each issue featured evidence, research, and exemplary practices.
Published between 1998 and 2020, Peer Review provided a quarterly briefing on emerging trends and key debates in undergraduate education. Each issue focused on a specific topic, provided comprehensive analysis, and featured campus perspectives.
